5 easy things to add to your routine to help your wellness.

Our wellness can sometimes fall to the wayside as we go about our busy lives, it’s easy to forget to prioritise it at times. To combat this we’ve put together a list of five small, manageable steps that can help your self-care.

1. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day - make it healthy!

Breakfast is often referred to as the most important meal of the day, and for good reason. Eating a healthy breakfast can help kick-start your metabolism and provide your body with the fuel it needs to power through your morning. You’ve probably heard it said that an apple are even better than coffee at waking you up in the morning. We’re not suggesting you stop drinking coffee but aim for a balanced breakfast that includes a mix of protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. Some easy options include oatmeal with nuts and fruit, a smoothie with protein powder and veggies, or eggs with whole-grain toast.

2. Get moving!

Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining good health. Incorporating movement into your daily routine can help boost your energy levels, improve your mood, and reduce your risk of chronic diseases. Even small amounts of exercise can make a big difference - try coming into FIT and going for a brisk walk during your lunch break, or doing a quick yoga flow before or after work in our Exhale Studio.

3. Practice mindfulness

In today's fast-paced world, it can be easy to get caught up in our thoughts and worries so taking time to practice mindfulness can help us stay present and focused. Studies have shown that mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety. You don't need to be an expert meditator to reap the benefits of mindfulness - simply taking a few deep breaths, practising gratitude, or spending time in nature can help you feel more grounded and centred.

4. Keep your fluids up

Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining good health, but it's something many of us overlook. Dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue, and poor concentration, so it's important to make sure you're drinking enough throughout the day. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day, and consider carrying a refillable water bottle with you wherever you go.

5. Prioritise rest

Getting enough restful sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. When we're sleep-deprived, our mood, energy levels, and cognitive function can all suffer. Make sure you're getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night, and prioritise creating a relaxing bedtime routine. Avoid screens for at least an hour before bed, and try reading a book, taking a bath, or practising gentle yoga to help you wind down.

Incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine can help boost your overall wellness and improve your quality of life. Remember, self-care isn't selfish - it's an essential part of taking care of ourselves so we can show up as our best selves in all areas of our lives.
